I’m a professor of History at Rutgers University-Newark. My interests lie primarily in the representation of war and its aftermath, focusing on the 1940s and 1950s. My books include “Cold War Captives” (2009) and “The Media at War” (2011). This fall Harvard University Press will publish my new book, “The Good Occupation: American Soldiers and the Hazards of Peace” which explores the self-understandings of occupation personnel of every rank in both Europe and Asia.
